At just 20 years old, Kimi Antonelli has become Formula 1 World Champion, leaving the rest of the grid wondering whether they should be racing him or offering him a lift home from school.

The Mercedes driver has achieved what most people his age can only dream of: becoming a millionaire, travelling the world and making considerably more money than his parents. He's also managed to win a world championship before some of his competitors have finished paying off their mortgages.

The achievement has caused considerable embarrassment for the older generation of drivers, particularly those who have spent years describing themselves as the future of Formula 1, only to discover that the future is apparently still getting asked what he'd like for tea.

Lewis Hamilton, who won his first championship at 23, is understood to have congratulated Antonelli while quietly checking whether his own retirement paperwork had accidentally been filed under 'pensioner'. Fernando Alonso, meanwhile, reportedly demanded a DNA test after discovering that Antonelli was born in 2006 - the same year he won his last World Championship.

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff was understandably delighted.

"We always knew Kimi was special," he explained. "He's incredibly mature for his age. He's also very good at following instructions, although we're still working on getting him to tidy his room."

The FIA is reportedly considering introducing a new regulation requiring drivers under 21 to have a parent or guardian present at podium ceremonies. There are also suggestions that champagne celebrations could be replaced with Ribena, although Antonelli has apparently insisted on retaining the traditional spray.

Rival teams are already looking to exploit Mercedes' success, with Red Bull reportedly investigating whether they can recruit a particularly promising foetus from Bologna.

Antonelli, meanwhile, can look forward to a glittering future in Formula 1. He's conquered the sport, earned millions and secured his place in history. Now he just needs to remember to take his PE kit home.
